Getting bug bites? They might be mites!

Are you seeing little red bug bites on your skin, or your kids’ skin?

From KMBC:

Mites are sending students at the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and Pittsburg State University to their health centers.

The mites live in the oak trees, grass or other plants until they fall and bite people.

“The redness around the bite is anywhere up to about a quarter size, and they usually have a small head in the center of the bite, so they’re covered,” said Dr. Douglas DeChairo, the director of the Watkins Health Center at the University of Kansas. “It’s not just one or two spots. They can have 20 to 30 spots.”

The welts, which may not show up for 24 hours after the bite, can be very itchy. They’re treatable with Benadryl or cortisone cream, but it’s important to watch for secondary infections.  Read the whole article here.
